<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A festival loan is an unsecured personal loan of ₹50,000 to ₹50 lakh that you can use for festive shopping, travel, gifts, gold or celebrations, at interest rates from about 8.75% to 24% p.a., with tenures of 12 to 72 months and disbursal in as little as 24 hours.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Introduction</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The 2026 festive season runs from Navratri through Dussehra (20 October), Dhanteras (6 November) and Diwali (8 November). This is when banks and NBFCs roll out their best festive loan offers, such as zero processing fees and rate discounts. An <a href="https://www.ruloans.com/blog/instant-personal-loan-online-approval-10-minutes/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">instant personal loan</a> taken now can fund a new phone, a family trip or a Diwali gathering without touching your savings.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One thing has changed this year. The RBI raised the repo rate by 25 basis points to 5.50% on 7 October 2026. Most personal loans carry a fixed rate, so locking in a festive season loan before further hikes keeps your EMI unchanged for the full tenure. You can compare and apply for a festival loan online with <a href="https://www.ruloans.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ruloans</a> in a few minutes.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>What Is a Festival Loan and How Does It Work?</strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A festival loan is a <a href="https://www.ruloans.com/blog/what-is-personal-loan/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">personal loan</a> taken to cover festive expenses. The lender pays a lump sum into your bank account, and you repay it in fixed monthly EMIs over 1 to 6 years. No collateral or end-use proof is needed.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Most lenders do not run a separate product called a &#8220;festival loan&#8221;. Instead, they offer their regular personal loan with festive pricing, which is why the terms festival personal loan and festive season loan are used for the same thing.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>How a festival loan works, step by step</strong></h3>

<ol class="wp-block-list">
<li>You apply online with your PAN, Aadhaar and income proof.</li>

<li>The lender checks your CIBIL score, income and existing EMIs.</li>

<li>You get an approved amount, rate and tenure.</li>

<li>You sign the agreement digitally (e-sign or e-NACH mandate).</li>

<li>The money reaches your bank account, often within 24 hours.</li>

<li>You repay in fixed EMIs, usually auto-debited on a set date each month.</li>
</ol>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>What can you use a festival personal loan for?</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You can spend the money on almost any lawful personal expense. Common uses include:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Shopping for electronics, appliances, clothes and home décor</li>

<li>Buying gold or silver jewellery on Dhanteras</li>

<li>Domestic or international holiday travel</li>

<li>Diwali parties, pujas, gifts and family gatherings</li>

<li><a href="https://www.ruloans.com/blog/personal-loan-for-home-renovation/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Home renovation</a> or painting before the festival</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A festival loan cannot be used for speculation, such as trading in shares or crypto, or for any illegal purpose.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Festival Loan Interest Rates 2026: Bank-Wise Comparison</strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Festival loan interest rates in 2026 start at 8.75% p.a. (Axis Bank, Bank of Maharashtra) and go up to 24% p.a. Large private banks such as <a href="https://www.ruloans.com/blog/sbi-vs-hdfc-vs-icici-personal-loan/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">HDFC Bank and ICICI Bank</a> start at 9.99% p.a., and SBI ranges from 10% to 15% p.a.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Rates as published by lenders and compiled by BankBazaar in August 2026. GST at 18% applies on processing fees. Your final rate depends on your credit score, income, employer and existing relationship with the bank. Festive loan offers can lower these headline rates or waive the fee for a limited period, so always check the live offer before you apply.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-table"><table><tbody><tr><td><strong>Do You Know?</strong>&nbsp;<br>On 7 October 2026, the RBI raised the repo rate by 25 basis points, from 5.25% to 5.50%. This was the first hike in nearly three years. The RBI also changed its policy stance from “neutral” to “calibrated tightening”, which signals that it is cautious about future rates. It now expects CPI inflation of 5.2% for 2026-27, and the next MPC meeting is on 2 to 4 December 2026. If you lock in a fixed-rate festival loan now, your EMI stays the same even if rates rise again.<br>Source: <a href="https://rbi.org.in/scripts/BS_PressReleaseDisplay.aspx?prid=63742" target="_blank" rel="noopener">RBI – Mon</a><a href="https://rbi.org.in/scripts/BS_PressReleaseDisplay.aspx?prid=63742" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">etary Policy Statement, October 2026</a></td></tr></tbody></table></figure>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>How much does a higher interest rate cost on a festival loan?</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">On a ₹3 lakh festival loan over 3 years, every 2% rise in rate adds about ₹10,000 to ₹11,000 in interest. A 750+ CIBIL score is the single biggest lever to get the lower end of the range.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Festival Personal Loan Amount, Tenure and Charges</strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You can borrow ₹50,000 to ₹50 lakh for 12 to 72 months. Expect a <a href="https://www.ruloans.com/blog/the-hidden-costs-of-personal-loans-understanding-fees-and-interest-in-india/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">processing fee</a> of 0% to 3.5% plus GST, foreclosure charges of 0% to 5%, and a late-payment penalty if you miss an EMI.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>How much festival loan can you get on your salary?</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Most lenders cap total EMIs at 40–50% of net monthly income. On a <a href="https://www.ruloans.com/blog/50000-salary-personal-loan/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">₹50,000 take-home salary</a> with no other EMIs, you can usually afford an EMI of ₹20,000–₹25,000, which supports a loan of roughly ₹6–7.5 lakh over 3 years at 12%.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Typical charges on a festival loan</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Always read the Key Fact Statement (KFS) that lenders must share before you sign. It lists the Annual Percentage Rate (APR), which includes fees, so you can compare the true cost of each festival loan.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Festival Loan EMI: How Much Will I Pay Per Month?</strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">At 11% p.a., a ₹1 lakh festival loan costs ₹8,838 a month over 1 year, ₹4,661 over 2 years, ₹3,274 over 3 years and ₹2,174 over 5 years.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A shorter <a href="https://www.ruloans.com/blog/how-to-choose-tenure-for-personal-loans/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">tenure</a> means a higher EMI but much less interest. On ₹2 lakh at 11%, total interest is ₹12,116 over 1 year but ₹60,909 over 5 years, five times more.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Festival Personal Loan Eligibility Criteria 2026</strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You are usually eligible for a festival loan if you are an Indian resident aged 21 to 60, earn at least ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 a month, have 1 year of work experience and hold a CIBIL score of 700 or more.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-table"><table><tbody><tr><td><strong>Criteria</strong></td><td><strong>Salaried</strong></td><td><strong>Self-Employed</strong></td></tr><tr><td>Age</td><td>21 to 60 years</td><td>21 to 65 years</td></tr><tr><td>Minimum income</td><td>₹15,000 to ₹25,000 net per month (varies by city and lender)</td><td>₹2 lakh to ₹5 lakh annual income per ITR</td></tr><tr><td>Work experience</td><td>1 year total, 3 to 6 months with current employer</td><td>2 to 3 years of business continuity</td></tr><tr><td>CIBIL score</td><td>700+ (750+ for the best rates)</td><td>700+ (750+ for the best rates)</td></tr><tr><td>Existing EMIs (FOIR)</td><td>Under 40% to 50% of income</td><td>Under 40% to 50% of income</td></tr></tbody></table></figure>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>What CIBIL score do I need for a festival loan?</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A score of 750 or above gets you the lowest rates and fastest approval. Between 700 and 749 you will usually be approved at a higher rate. <a href="https://www.ruloans.com/blog/personal-loan-for-cibil-score-below-650/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Below 650</a>, approval is difficult, and you may need a co-applicant.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Can I get a festival loan with a low salary?</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Yes. Some NBFCs and digital lenders approve small festival loans of ₹50,000 to ₹1 lakh for <a href="https://www.ruloans.com/blog/personal-loan-for-15000-salary/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">salaries from ₹15,000</a> a month, though rates are often 16% or higher. Adding a <a href="https://www.ruloans.com/blog/personal-loan-with-co-applicant/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">co-applicant</a> or choosing a smaller amount improves your chances.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Documents Required for a Festival Loan</strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You need PAN, Aadhaar, your last 3 months&#8217; salary slips and 3 to 6 months&#8217; bank statements. Self-employed applicants also need 2 years of ITRs and business proof. <a href="https://www.ruloans.com/blog/what-is-pre-approved-personal-loan/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Pre-approved customers</a> can often get an instant personal loan with just PAN and Aadhaar e-KYC.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Festive loan offers usually include a full or partial processing fee waiver, a rate discount of 0.25% to 0.5%, faster disbursal, cashback or vouchers. They run for a limited window, usually from Navratri to Diwali, and apply only to loans sanctioned in that period.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In 2025, lenders cut rates on personal loans, waived processing fees and extended tenures during the festive season, and HDFC Bank ran &#8220;festive treats&#8221; with savings of up to ₹50,000 across loan products (<a href="https://www.business-standard.com/industry/banking/banks-nbfcs-festive-season-offers-credit-demand-125092300911_1.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">Business Standard</a>). <h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Is a zero processing fee loan always cheaper?</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">No. Always compare the total cost, not just the fee. A loan with a slightly lower rate and a fee can cost less than a &#8220;zero-fee&#8221; loan at a higher rate.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Shop, Travel, Celebrate: How to Use Your Festival Loan</strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A festival loan can fund shopping, holiday travel and celebrations together, in one loan with one EMI. Plan a budget for each, borrow only the total you need, and keep the EMI under 15% to 20% of your monthly income.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Shop: electronics, appliances and gold</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Festive sales bring the year&#8217;s deepest discounts on phones, TVs, laptops and appliances. Paying in full with a festival loan often lets you claim cash-discount deals that card EMIs do not get. Dhanteras on 6 November 2026 is also the traditional day to buy gold, silver and utensils.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Travel: holidays and trips home</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Diwali long weekend is the busiest travel window of the year. Flight and hotel prices rise sharply in the last two weeks, so booking early with funds in hand usually gets you better fares and rooms.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Celebrate: pujas, parties and gifts</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Pujas, home décor, sweets, gifts for family and staff, and hosting relatives all add up. A single loan keeps these costs in one predictable EMI instead of a pile of card bills.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Sample festive budget funded by a festival loan</strong></h3>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Festival Loan vs Credit Card vs BNPL: Which Is Better?</strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">For festive spending above ₹50,000 that you cannot repay within a month, a festival loan is usually cheapest. Credit card revolving credit costs about 36% to 45% a year, while a festival personal loan starts near 10%. BNPL suits only small purchases you can clear within its interest-free window.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-table"><table><tbody><tr><td><strong>Feature</strong></td><td><strong>Festival Personal Loan</strong></td><td><strong>Credit Card (Revolving)</strong></td><td><strong>Credit Card EMI</strong></td><td><strong>BNPL</strong></td></tr><tr><td>Typical cost</td><td>8.75% to 24% p.a.</td><td>About 36% to 45% p.a.</td><td>About 13% to 24% p.a. + fee</td><td>0% for a short period, then high late fees</td></tr><tr><td>Amount</td><td>₹50,000 to ₹50 lakh</td><td>Up to card limit</td><td>Up to card limit</td><td>Usually up to ₹1 lakh or less</td></tr><tr><td>Tenure</td><td>12 to 72 months</td><td>Revolving</td><td>3 to 24 months</td><td>15 days to 12 months</td></tr><tr><td>Use</td><td>Any expense, cash in bank</td><td>Card payments only</td><td>Single purchase</td><td>Partner merchants only</td></tr><tr><td>Blocks card limit</td><td>No</td><td>Yes</td><td>Yes</td><td>Not applicable</td></tr></tbody></table></figure>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>How much more does a credit card cost than a festival loan?</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Repaying ₹1 lakh over 12 months costs about ₹6,058 in interest with a festival loan at 11%, versus about ₹24,000 if you revolve it on a credit card at 3.5% a month. That is roughly four times more.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">An instant personal loan also keeps your card limit free, which protects your credit utilisation ratio and your CIBIL score.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Check your CIBIL score first, borrow only what your budget needs, compare APRs across lenders, choose a fixed rate, keep the tenure short, apply before the festive rush, and never miss an EMI.</p>

<ol class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Check your CIBIL score early.</strong> A score above 750 can cut your rate by several percentage points.</li>

<li><strong>Borrow for a budget, not a wish list.</strong> Total your planned spending first and borrow that amount only.</li>

<li><strong>Compare APR, not headline rates.</strong> The APR includes fees and shows the real cost of each festive season loan.</li>

<li><strong>Lock in a fixed rate.</strong> With the repo rate rising to 5.50% in October 2026, a fixed rate protects your EMI from future hikes.</li>

<li><strong>Keep the tenure short.</strong> A 12 to 24 month tenure clears the loan before next Diwali and saves interest.</li>

<li><strong>Apply 1 to 2 weeks before the festival.</strong> Avoid bank holidays and peak-season delays around Dussehra and Diwali.</li>

<li><strong>Set up auto-debit.</strong> One missed EMI attracts penalties and can lower your CIBIL score.</li>
</ol>
