										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>On 1<sup>st</sup> July 2019, our Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a massive national campaign titled “Jal Shakti Abhiyan”. This movement is solely for protecting one of the most basic needs of humans i.e. <strong>WATER</strong>.</p>
<p>For those who don’t know, Jal Shakti Abhiyan will focus more on 5 main aspects;</p>
<p>Water conservation and rainwater harvesting</p>
<p>Renovation of traditional and other water bodies</p>
<p>Reuse of water and recharging of structures</p>
<p>Watershed development and</p>
<p>Intensive forestation</p>
<p>In a report from <strong>NITI Aayog</strong>, they stated that more than 21 major cities of India are expected to run out of groundwater as soon as 2020. This report then went viral as along the same time we got the news that Chennai which is one of the top Tier states has almost run out of water sources.</p>
<p>This report has been considered as a warning before the storm. Since then we at Ruloans understand that more and more people need to be given information about the importance of saving water.</p>

<p>This is a new ministry made which will include ministers from Water resources and Drinking &amp; Sanitation. Gajendra Singh Shekhawat will be the man in charge of Jal Shakti.</p>
<p><strong>What will the Jal Shakti Minsitry work on?</strong></p>
<p>All issues based on water conservation, resolving water disputes and cleaning many polluted rivers will be taken up by this ministry.</p>
<p><strong>When will the Jal Shakti campaign begin?</strong></p>
<p>It has already begun and is on its first phase! The government wants to harvest as much rainwater as possible so we can utilize it during the summer period. Also, “RECYCLE and REUSE will be the main focus of Jal Shakti Abhiyan!</p>
<p><strong>Why should we focus on water?</strong></p>
<p>We must focus on water because;</p>
<p>Chennai is on the brink of being the first state without water reserves.</p>
<p>There is a lot of water shortage and NITI aayog’s report states that by 2020 we will have depleted majority of our water reserves.</p>
<p>More than half our population doesn’t get to enjoy clean drinking water.</p>
<p>Hence before we lose everything, it is time to understand and save water!</p>
<p><strong>What can we do as “Aam Aadmi”?</strong></p>
<p>There’s a lot you can do. You can stop wasting water and utilize only how much you need. Few housing complexes have begun taking steps to store water through this rainfall. They will use this water when there is water shortage. So your society can do the same too!</p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>India is now on the brink of the biggest water crisis ever! While everyone thinks about climate change being the most important reason for this development, the real reason is that this is a “MAN MADE CRISIS”.</p>
<p>Here are some basic facts from NITI Aayog’s report which will help you understand more about India’s water crisis:</p>
<p><strong>Up to 70% of India’s water supply is “contaminated”.</strong></p>
<p><strong>Up to 75% of households do not have drinking water on premise.</strong></p>
<p><strong>Up to 84% rural households do not have piped water access.</strong></p>
<p><strong>Up to 70% of states treat less than half of their waste water.</strong></p>
<p><strong>Up to 40% of water is lost due to leakages in urban areas.</strong></p>
<p><strong>India is currently ranked 120 among 122 countries in the water quality index.</strong></p>
<p><strong>Two hundred thousand Indians already die every year because they don’t have a safe water supply.</strong></p>
<p><strong>600 million people face “high to extreme” water stress.</strong></p>
<p><strong>Rainwater harvesting capacity is only 8%.</strong></p>
<p><strong>Demand for potable water will outstrip supply by 2030.</strong></p>
<p><strong>At the current demand rate, 21 Indian cities will run out of groundwater by next year, including our capital New Delhi and IT hub Bangalore.</strong></p>
<p><strong>If matters are to continue, there will be a 6% loss in the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2050.</strong></p>
<p><strong>Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala—are also only able to provide drinking water to 53-72% of urban populations.</strong></p>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>On 1st July, Prime Minister <strong>Narendra Modi</strong> begun conversations on a new topic i.e. <strong>SAVE WATER</strong>! This is because one of the premier states <strong>Chennai</strong> is almost out of groundwater reserves.</p>
<p>As per a study from <strong>NITI Aayog</strong>, India will be out of water reserves within the next 10 years. Few states will be struggling as demand will outgrow supply. Hence now is the right time to save before it is too late.</p>
<p>On his radio program our PM asked every Indian to pledge towards “<strong>Jal Shakti Abhiyan</strong>” and ensure we do our bit in saving water which is one of the most important essential for every living person.</p>
<p>The <strong>Central Groundwater Board</strong> is slated to levy a water conservation fee for groundwater usage by residential complexes, industry and even for agricultural consumption all over India.</p>
<p><strong>What will happen of this water fee?</strong></p>
<p>This small water fee collected by everyone will add-up into a huge amount. These total fees collected would then be deposited in a central depository account and will later be used to fund groundwater recharge projects by the Central groundwater authority or the concerned state department.</p>
<p><strong>What is the way forward for Jal Shakti Abhiyan?</strong></p>
<p>Currently, we do not have any full proof mechanism which will help in sustainable groundwater extraction.</p>
<p>For India, the need of the hour is that we make clear arrangements with government departments, research institutes, local self-government bodies, industrial units, civil society organizations and also with the local community.</p>
<p>With everyone on board with saving water, we can raise our groundwater levels.</p>
<p><strong>Did you know? </strong></p>
<ol>
<li>Groundwater provides 80% of India’s drinking water needs and also meets nearly two-thirds of our irrigation.</li>
<li>In the last 40 years, about 84% of the total addition to irrigation has come from groundwater. This clearly needs to be reversed soon.</li>
